Hey Growler just wanted to let you know I'll try this too. After I figure out how NOT TO DIE with 6 characters let alone one :oops: I've pretty much forgotten all I learned the first time I played this. Right now I'm up to the point where I don't have to camp out in front of the temple to resurrect dead characters. Most of them are lvl 6 now and heading out to try the first dungeon.

Chaney, did 54 levs allow for gaining all available spells? (that should be at least close to maxing out, right?)

Got mine to ~45 I think then got sidetracked by Dragonbait's evil basement!! After I finish his mod, I'll return & try to get my guy up to max spells..

~|~|~

Skaven, cool--it's a fun challenge...but dang difficult especially playing v2.01a! My guy died dozens of times before getting him up to level 6 or 7 where he could survive most of the time.

Don't let the spiders bite in that first dungeon! (assuming yer going for the starter Cloaker?)

No, there were still some left, though all I really needed was mivo. I was into the warlock stage, but the points to advance was ridiculously high, so I just completed the game and left it at that.

The Mind Vortex spell makes the Arcanist the most powerful of all classes. "By the power of Greyskull!"

OK. i have officially begun Growlers challenge.
What kind of insane hairy beast thought this thing up?!! Can't count how many times I've died already.
I picked up as much armor as I could find. boots, gloves, eelskin armor, cloak etc.
I created an Aeromancer. I only have 2 spells right now.

1 Air Aid. - (makes characters swing their weapons more fiercely). -I don't bother wasting my turn casting this spell.

2.) Air Spikes - Also useless. 1-4 points of damage. My character hits better swinging the smartstaff that I picked up.

My next spell purchase will be Air Target -helps deflect physical attacks.

I can almost get to level 2. almost....almost....

I also found a nomad that was willing to join my Elementalist. He helps out allot.

Gotta try that MIVO spell.. keep hearing nice things about it :wink:

One of my favs is the Pyro's BLLI (low spell cost that gives ya a couple extra free turns to read a travel book while most if not all the baddies are rubbing their burnt retinas. :twisted:
~~~
Yeah, I So nearly gave up a dozen times just trying to reach level 2, then again the next couple levels.. one thing that makes it tougher (at least with 2.01a or b) is all those Highly effective monster ranged attacks--esp. by Nomads, but dwarves too sometimes. A big ole group of them just hang back 30' or so & let loose a torrent of arrows that are approx 100% accurate.
Also, as yer guy does manage to level up bit by bit, the monster grow in numbers & ya start encountering multiple groups.. so this keeps the challenge going for first several levels.
I tried to roll for very high DEX to help get first licks in & have a better chance at running away (also drops yer AC is dex is 16 or higher). And I tried to get the very best armor (affordable) from various shops & munster-drops.
I did finally cheat a lil...but only after getting up to level 20 or so.. did the ole savegame, enter the casino & then exit & save again if my guy wuz a winner--or reload if he crapped out, as it were. :P
Keep us posted!
Well I got my Aeromancer up to level 3 and not sure whether this is cheating or not but I let a Water Elemental from the wilderness join my elementalist.
Hey Growlmiester what is this b patch you mentioned? Haven't heard anything about that. Tried googling it to see if it was in the ether of the net but got a big fat goose egg. I know this is waaaaayyy off topic but the CTDs are killing me and I really like the 2.01A patch. I don't want to go back to having bards that suck. So I'm guessing the B is more stable. Anyways thx.
Well, I have 2 things.
1. The 2.0B is some fix up that one of the game players(and a modder) did to correct some erroneous stuff in the 2.01A. Here is his link to it http://home.comcast.net/~tavernx/
2. I found, at least for the early part of the game, that my arcanist did more damage with a bow and some elf arrows. If your strength is at least 10, you can arm your spell casters with bows.
One last thing. If you want to try a bard, he might be the second best choice. Make sure he has high dexterity, and keep rolling until you get an 18 for charisma. With an 18 for charisma, he will put everyone to sleep almost all the time, then you can just spend the time hacking at them until they are dead. Roll for high dexterity to get first attack.
The 2.01b patch was done by Rickstavern.
I am currently using the 2.01b
My Aeromancer has picked up the spell ARWI Artic Wind
spell hits 1 group for 1d5*(lvl)
I'm at lvl 3 so 1d5*3 against one group.
I cast Air Target first
drops 1 AC for any party members in your team.
Then cast away with ARWI
Water Elemental that joined my Aero helps out big time + has about 112? hit points. something like that.
One question I had regarding the patches.......
I have the Devil Whiskey Demo version 2.01 also installed on my computer and I noticed that If you go into the wilderness there is a nice path with trees on either side of the path heading east out from the main gates.
On my full version of the game version 2.0, I then installed the 2.01b patch. I don't see the path with the trees.
Am I correct in saying that the path with trees is only available with the Demo version 2.01 and not on the Full-Version beta patches? Or should I have installed beta patch 2.01, then installed beta patch 2.01a and then installed the 2.01b patch??? :?
