I can't say definitively if that is accurate, as I have not done that myself, but that is how patches are supposed to work. If you jump from patch 1 to patch 3, you will usually lose what has been added to patch 2.

I don't remember ever seeing a path in the wilderness!?!

It may be in the demo only.

Good question re: whether allowing a munster join yer party.. hmm.

Well, since I didn't specify at the beginning--it'd be hard to cry foul now, so can only say that while allowing a monster to join is certainly a 'natural' part of gameplay, it's still a form of workaround considering the basic challenge was to go solo.. but then solo would seemingly imply just 1 rolled up char rather than monsters that either cruise along or get conjured.

My personal druthers would be (& was) not to allow a wandering monster to join ye, but hard to argue against a solo char conjuring a monster to ride shotgun. At least, that way the extra party member is a direct result of his own hard work & skill.

Hope this complicates the question! :? :?

chaney wrote:One last thing. If you want to try a bard, he might be the second best choice. Make sure he has high dexterity, and keep rolling until you get an 18 for charisma. With an 18 for charisma, he will put everyone to sleep almost all the time, then you can just spend the time hacking at them until they are dead. Roll for high dexterity to get first attack.
That's awesome, Chaney!
Tres clevor..

That's a great example of what I was hoping for with this challenge--to get ideas of how to play most effectively within the game's basic construct.

Butt can't Believe you cheated via the caSINo!! 8) 8)

Oh and chaney I had no idea CH affected the strength of the bard songs. NO WONDER he sucks when using the old bagpipes. I concentrated on dex and cn and str. When I should of concentrated on dex and CH and CN.

I didn't either, but then I never played a Bard in DW.. may have to try one now that the gig is up!

Always wished that in DW yer chars would gradually increase their basic stats via level-ups.. kinda like NAT goes up 1 every 7 levels--for fighters at least.

Cool if at least 1 of yer stats increased (perhaps randomly imparted) by at least 1 point say...every few levels up--even if only every 5 levs.. but preferably every other level up! :P

Never saw that path before. I will see if I can get a copy of the Demo, and check out the cfg files, although, as mentioned, I doubt they go anywhere.

Perhaps it was a plan which had been scrapped between the demo and the game. Another city?

Well, since several people don't use a bard, I guess I will mention this detail. The song the bard uses to put people to sleep is Diit's Eternal Song.

Growler if you want your stats to change when you increase your level, just play Dragon Wars.

The path doesn't lead anywhere. At least not in the demo ver 2.01. Also you can see the squares along the path so it's look wasn't perfect. But still it's kind of cool. I was looking through the demo files and I saw some plot script that I didn't recall actually playing in the full game so i'll have to check that out.

Regarding bard's. When you get to crafting levels, craft yourself an Amulet of God-Like Personality and equip it on your bard. + to charisma and also makes "talking down the prices" at all the shops mucho easier.

Unless someone wants to bootleg WinXP for me, then I'll be in. I'm not paying for that either.
I bought / played the 2.0 version of Devil Whiskey for playing under Linux and I liked it generally. Now I am out to develop my own CRPG in Java language which will be in many ways similar to the classics like Devil Whiskey. The developed framework is/will be opensource. Check out dev blog: http://jcrpg.blogspot.com and http://javacrpg.sf.net for the currently very basic sources.

That's awesome Illespal! :D

"in the tradition of old school RPGs like Wizardry 7 and EOB. In the plans are OpenGL, AI, scripting, turn based combat, commanding a group of characters."

that line says it all. :)

Keep us posted!

Uber-Sweet!

Hope it works out--& if it's easy enough, then many of us could eventually mod with it, right? :D
