Thought a new poll might spice things up 'round heah.. :P

Feel free to mention various games that are especially fun due to great combat system, excellent storyline, exceptional pub beers, sextra-hot wenches, what have ye! 8)

I was going to click micromanaging resources but figuring since you can do that in allot of other games, I went with "Combat". I like the simplistic text based combat.

Yeah, for me the two go hand-in-handy. It's fun to micromanage mostly in order to optimize combat potential.

I went with the storyline myself, although ironically I never completed it in DW. But in most RPG's, that is the thing that keeps me coming back.
I reject your reality, and substitute my own.

The ability to eat RAW BLOODY MEAT, kitten roasts, bring forth meteor storms and mass destruction (including giant, invisible hammers) on a battle field, and just generally do what I can't do in real life.

The chance to explore new worlds, meet the locals and a bit of the history. Some games are better than others at this.

Hot elf chicks in chain mail.

See above.

Yeah, the combat & micro-managing aspects really are lots more fun within a compelling context..ie, good storyline..interesting new environs.. and even the background music can make a big dif in enjoying.

Well now I rescind my stance, on the basis that Growler agrees with me.

It's best for the boobs.

Had to admit the resource micromanaging. HAD to see if you could get 4 digits hp, then 5 digits....always more more more.

Still grinding away over at Egg's Ultima Online, only as a DM now

Still miss my 12 hour DW trips thru a certain somebody's Skara Brae mod!

You're still at EUO Grodst? :P I've pretty much quit that, been playing one called Shaiya for a while now. Can't claim to have gotten far, I restarted my mage.

Not what you think perv, I don't even have a physical manifestation. I traded it for a microphone. Thinking about making a new one, because I'm bored. Hey, I made a MySpace for that same reason...

I can't think of any game that offers the ability to make your own items like dW; most RPG engines aren't that well set up for modding.

As far as in-game crafting goes, several MMO's offer that.

My first thought was micromange, but like dragonbait said you can do that in other genres as well. So I went with a good story. Give me a character I can build and actually care about why I'm going to slay the big bad foozle and I'm a happy camper.

On a side note it's good to see that this place is still active. For all it's faults Devil Whiskey is still the best reinvention of The Bards Tale out there. It's one of those games that I just have to keep replaying from time to time.
Despite all my rage,
I'm still just a rat in a cage.

Skaven--nice to see ya back!

A compelling storyline def helps.. esp when the combat & micromanaging grow tedious..

Have you tried out the mods?? Check out the MegaMod (which includes the 2.01b patches/updates) - it greatly simplifies playing the mods, so lots mo' bang for yo buck. But then 'free' = zero bux. 8)

Good to see your ugly mug too my hairy friend

I couldn't be more pleased when out of the blue I popped in here and saw that there were a lot of new posts since the last time I visited and was as giddy as a human sized rat school girl, that there was even new mods

I got the Megamod and even subscribed to a one of the yahoo groups because of all this activity. It's been years since I've read about actual patches in the works. It would be great to be able to use slings or certain spells without crashing to the desktop, I never did figure out why that always happened and was the main reason I always quit this game. Too many CTDs gets a little nerve wracking

Anyways it's great to see you guys are still here and I can't wait to try out Dragonbaits mod.

Dragonbait was the one that did the mod right? I can't remember, either it was DB or Chaney. Either way it's great to see you guys again and I'll try to stick around a little longer this time. I just hate those stupid CTDs. Ehh maybe I'll try the all monk party challenge  That way no slings or spells.

Edit: I was right the first time it was DB's sorta with some content from Rickstaven and Growler I believe. Ehh doesn't really matter, it's just great to see new stuff again. I'm going to play through without out it first to see if I can actually pass the game this time around
