Any Tips?
Game Version: 2.01b
Megamod Version: v02.
Difficulty: Easy
Dying: still
Suffering right now during the Defend Rennibister quest. Only bough one good axe and one good torso armor (don't recall their names). Also found chainmail armor.
How do you even complete it? Seriously.
I have a PsiKnight, Ranger, Rogue, Red Claw, Bard, and two Warriors. All keep dying.
Is there anything to be told about the classes and races that I wouldn't get from the manual (what is a Bard good for anyway)?
Can someone explain how AC works? I kept it at 7 and 8 while gathering characters.

The bard can play a song that has a chance to put all of the enemies asleep. Once you hit level 13, and can craft things, you can make the bard "godlike" in this ability. Hang in there. It is like BT in that regard. You die alot until you get a few levels. Save after every fight. You should have waited a few levels before starting the defend rennibister mod.

All of those answers are in the manual. All of the spells and effects are there. To answer the rest questions. You restore spell points when you rest-twice as fast if you rest during the day. As far as what to buy, most of the time if it costs more, it is better. Not always, but certainly early on.

Re: Any Tips?
While this lineup of classes might work early on at fighting in the streets of Rennibister, it will not work when you start entering the dungeons. You will want at least 1 Arcanist, and 1 Elementalist. I would suggest starting with the Pyromancer for the Elementalist class as it contains the best spells for elementalist IMO.yarow12 wrote:I have a PsiKnight, Ranger, Rogue, Red Claw, Bard, and two Warriors. When you get to later levels, you will find that the Arcanist spell "Mind Vortex" pretty much rules all in the spellcasting world. Perhaps this is not what the developers intended, but as of now it is true.
Also like Chaney said, this game is a tribute to the old Bard's Tale Trilogy, so expect it to be difficult early on, and expect it to be battle heavy. If low-level characters die, make new ones to replace them. If high-level characters die, save up and resurrect them at the temple.
Thanks for the info.
One more thing for now. Is there any reason not to give a certain race or class a certain weapon or armor that they can equip?
For example, I see that my Aeromancer, Pyromancer, and Arcanist have on Cloak and all but the Arcanist (Quarterstaff) have Daggers. Is it safe to assume that every new equipment I give them should be similar to what they started off with?
I now have two Barbarians (Battle Axes and Loin Cloths), a Saurian Red Claw (Buckler), Warrior (Helm, Leather Armor, and Long Sword) Ranger (Cloak, Longbow, and Broad Sword), Pyromancer (Robe and Dagger), Aeromancer (Robe and Dagger), and Arcanist (Robe and Quarterstaff).
No, I haven't been shopping yet.

If a character is able to equip an item (and IIRC, when you you visit the shops, you will know whether or not a character can equip an item or not), then there is no reason for a character to not equip that item. You do not need to limit yourself to whatever type item that you initially were given. And in fact there are allot of items that can be found in various shops throughout the city and elsewhere that can greatly help out your characters. I seem to remember there being some kind of lizard skin gloves+boots+armor etc. or (perhaps not lizard) something of the sort that you can greatly reduce arcanist or elementalist AC with.
Darn it. I know it's not lizard skin. Something like that though. Can find it in the shop to the north of Heughters Owl. (Hooters Owl)

Eelskin Tunic if I remember correctly. The smart staff helped the Arc's more. Here is a big tip for you. There is a casino in the game. Go there, and keep betting all your money on one of the games until you have good funds for all your characters. Pool all the money with the character who has the highest luck. You will have to do a lot of reloading without saving (when you lose), but you will eventually build up enough money to not care about what something cost. You can also create a character with high luck. Don't care about any other traits but luck. When you have won all the money you want, dump the character. Evil but useful.

Re: Luck at the casino....That reminds me...When you donate money to the temple you get some +bonus to attributes and I'm pretty sure it was for luck. Donate enough and you get some insane +bonus to your attribute. I suppose that could be used in combination with the casino. Be nice and donate to the temple, get high luck, and get your money back playing the casino. It just occurred to me now. Kind of self defeating though. If yu have enough money to blow on the temple then you probably have already had enough money to buy whatever you need at the shops. Though you could just enable cheat mode, but I do not recommend that until after you have played through the entire game legitimately first. Otherwise it might spoil the enjoyment of beating the game.
I'll try that casino trick after I've found it again.
New Question: Are Growler's Devil Whiskey Files legitimate? I ask this because I have his/her DW_Items xls file and it contradicts with the information I've gathered before realizing such a file already existed. I even used the same file type.
My list
Branded Armor: 2400G
Chain Mail: 600G
Cloak: 40G
Mace: 40G
Growler's list
Banded Armor: 1200G
Chain Mail: 500G
Mace: 150G
Cloak: 80G
What about all the other useful data in the file (Damage, Status Effect, Class, etc)?
I'll probably just use Growler's files as a template and change them accordingly.
I'm assuming much has changed due to patches by the way. Such is development.
