music anyone?
Hello there!
My name is Troy Nies and I am a composer, performer, musician (among other things) and a gamer for as long as I can remember - back in the Bard's Tale (Commodore64 days), Ultima, Wizardry etc... anyhow, was wondering if there would be an interest for some music mods? I could create music for the different Bard Instruments and perhaps some scripters out there could create the different tune's effects? anyway, thought I'd post to see if anyone was interested. I could also do the ambient works for different levels for your mods, all you need to do is ask...

I think that would be a definite plsu, but would have to follow a few guidelines:
- 1 - Uniquely name all new files. the levels can be config'd to accept multiple sounds or play different backgrounds. Don't write over the old files, just add more options.
2 - SS can host the files in RenHall so that all active members can find them easily.
3 - A Sound Overhaul will part of the project at hand. Would be best if the sound maintained "stylistic" characteristics. IOW, most sounds are natural or natural emulations... no synths, machine guns, etc...

Sounds good to me. I too would only be interested in doing 'genre' type compositions and sound sculpting, i.e. orchestral music, typical of the Devil Whiskey setting. Ambience for the mods would be specific to the environment, i.e. sewers would sound like sewers(with the appropriate gurgling etc.) and some mood music where needed...
Cool... just send a message where appropriate when the time has come near. Do you know how to configure the audio folder text scripts? Just download the tools and read the instructions if needed.
Go ahead and test everything and let us know when you're ready for us to host it. Hopefully we can list credits and link to all modders who contribute.

music update
just thought i'd post an update:
nearly finished with 'Rosco's Reprise' a sleepy tune for mainly harp (and then some orchestral elements come in) in a two part form. It could work either as an inn/pub tune or an actual Bard tune that lulls the enemy to sleep. I will post links to the audio file shortly. I will post .ogg and .mp3 files for those interested. I can post any format as needed for mod files. Also, anyone interested in the actual score of the works can contact me as well. Currently working on a backround sound file for an evil temple-type setting.... any requests?

Troy, an evil temple would be perfect for one dungeon in my mod. Spooky mad laughter, chanting of crowds of followers, and screams of sacrificial victims wouldn't be out of place.
A request: Could you do a cellar or sewer type of environment with rat squeaks? They might even sound like bats too, if somebody wanted a dual use.

1 point 21 jigawatts!
How 'bout a track that mixes bawdy, scherzo-jig, dance-trance--back-tracked with naturalistic chainsaws?
Imbued with a hint of reggaesque-calypso & dirgy-undertones..
8)
Layer it with new-wave funk & it'll be perfect for this Zen Temple I'm meditating in.

A little too mundane for me, unless...
Growler,
Throw in bongo drums and a polka rhythm played on the Mongolian marinhur, and I'll buy it!
I don't think that was the sort of "plain of existence" that Troy meant. I think he meant flat land--you know, Kansas, southern Michigan, the veldt or taiga--that sort of thing.

In all seriousness, it'd rock to have a few humorous tunes--even with a laff-track--ho-ho-ho--built-in!
Could be used if someone made a mod with a casino or pub that had a stand-up comic; or, in a battle, that made the monsters less effective due to their consternated(!) giggling & snickering--also, some chance yer crew may be amusingly affected aswell..

As mentioned in the "Rosco's Respite" thread - Your comment on a tune with a laugh-track brought instant inspiration. I have already begun work on such a tune... Thank you so much for the suggestion/inspiration!
also, for those following this thread - I have posted on the "Rosco's Respite" thread a link in both .mp3 and (and thanks to Growler) a reminder to provide .ogg format since that is the default. The links are as follows:

Very cool that Troy's working on new tunes & willing to share 'em--hear! hear! That's a nice boon to would-be modders..
Any artists out there who can draw/paint fantasy chars & mons?
If so, & ya don't have a way to scan in or otherwise digitize, I might can help..
Also, I'm happy to host any audio &/or artwork.

Respite for Roscoe
Troy,
I second G-man's statement that it's cool you're willing to share. I like the idea of the funny music, myself, complete with magical effects. If you have to destroy some poor ol' Orc, let him die laughing! But beyond that, if you're ever wanting to open up a stall in one of Renibister's fine stores (so to speak) and sell some music, I would be interested, too.
I like the little guy in your picture. He looks like the Bard from the box-covers for the Bard's Tale, maybe after a lot of ale and good food. Is the Roscoe in the Respite the fellow from the equipment shop? I always thought he got a lousy break in BT 3, when he's listed with the fallen of Skara Brae.
