jcrpg - java classic rpg

Post by illespal »

I've decided to open a new topic for jcrpg related headsup here on dw forum, so we can chit-chat about it.

Jcrpg is an open-source classic role playing game framework and engine written in Java under lgpl license. It aims the tradition of Wizardry 7, EOB, and has a lot common with DW too. More info to read can be found at http://javacrpg.sf.net and http://jcrpg.blogspot.com .

Recently released pre-alpha version can be downloaded freely at https://sourceforge.net/project/showfil ... _id=197331. It's free, source is distributed in the project's sf.net SVN repository. You will need opengl hw acceleration, and Sun Java 1.5+. Linux with X11 or Windows.

Curious to know how many people you have helping you with the project?

+ I'll be sure to add it to my directory site once you have something completed. Or would be happy to list it while it's still in the works if you'd like.

With influences like Wizardry 7, Eye of the Beholder, and Devil Whiskey, The JavaCRPG will probably get allot of fans and supporters. Noticed you've already got allot of hits from all over the world through ClustrMaps. I'm sure most of the people at the DW forums are interested in the sort of game/framework that you are creating. + it'll be an RPG, + turn based Gotta love the turn based part. I like to be able to take my time and strategize + hope the game will have a good strategic aspect to it, the way SSI always did with their games. Keep us posted.

Hi Illespal!!

That rocks! that your making a new rpg type thing. One request that I have though. Please!! make the Half-Orc as one of your available character classes. It just isn't a true rpg without the Half-Orc. Also character classes from Wizardry 7 like the Dracon and the Mook would be nice to add. It would rule to have a new style game like Wizardry 7 & Eye of the Beholder! Can't wait to try out your JavaCRPG when its ready!
Defenders fell, their bane come true, Garth, Roscoe, Kylearan too!

I've got a pal who's expert in Linux, does some programming, & has interest in RPG--so will try to get him to check this out & contribute.

Really hope your efforts succeed, illespal! :P

Hey, Growler! Thanks! :-) But don't forget that as jcrpg is a Java project, it will be platform independent. Linux resemblance is only the license! :-) So this will run on Linux/Windows/Mac OS X, and who wants to contribute into the source must know coding in Java.

No problem with that one (halforc)! ;D About the others, I'm wanting to include as much different races (you wrote wrongly classes) as possible, yet I think I cannot put those in one-in-one due to license problems with Sir-Tech. Also the game cannot play in the Wizardry universe because of the same reason. Yet I want resemblance! :D

Yeah, thanks for willing to include it on your homepage. You may include it already, I am not against it. Opensource projects need attention in any early stage. :)

Yeah, turn based will be a strong element of the default combat system of jcrpg framework, I love turn based combat too! :)

figured I'd give this thread a bump. Just tested out and wandered through JavaCRPG at it's current status. Fun stuff. Check out this pic! and if you haven't done so, check out JavaCRPG!

And again, there's an even better release at the some download url with performance patch for optimal gameplay. :-) A big lot of changes, mostly related to 3D core and plants redesigned. Check the download or the blog if interested in screenshots...

Is this going to develop into a game, or just the groundwork for someone to make a game? Beautiful imagery! :D
