That was what I was suggesting you give Growler as a reward. Oh, and he likes his wittle tummy scratched(according to his cousins).

Hey, those were helpful suggestions. After scratching your wittle tummy, she'll probably need a lice treatment and several shots as well. :)

You guys!!

Decklin's Listing on Ebay Item number: 320105875475
A couple of months ago, 47 were available for purchase.
Now it says 46.

Besides word of mouth, was there ANY marketing for this game?

When was the last official patch / contact with the developers?

Dig
Well this is not good. According to the last post of Fri Dec 28, 2007, until today.........Mon Jan 30, 2012, there have been exactly a History: of 31 sold.
That's not so good.
Granted, that is only games sold through the Ebay channel, but still........
No wonder Decklin doesn't want to open source the thing. It likely hasn't made any money.
Member since: May-07-03 (but Deckliln didn't have the rights until 2008 I think. I know I bought the game back in around 2006 or 2007 from Shifting Suns before Deck got his hands on it.

Did he ever have that talk with Justin about releasing the code?

Not that he has shared with the Forum. I imagine it has sold quite a few more through the download channels though. It is a bit on the pricey side for box version. Worth it, but if I hadn't played it before, I don't think I would have ponied up that much. If he took it to $25, it would sell quicker.

With DW being such a niche game, and without any real marketing strategy, I can't imagine the sales were all that spectacular. Most of us got here by word of mouth or from a few of the game reviews which appeared online, but with a small company behind it it never got the push it really deserved.

Disgusting, but probably true. I did luck onto from a BT site.

I don't mind telling you what I know ... I started selling the boxed set ( by buying them and reselling ) in 2004 because I'd linked to the Bard's Legacy site originally because of my own interest - I still have all 3 Bard's Tale boxes plus Dragon Wars ...

I sold 20 Devil Whiskey's in 2004, 43 in 2005, 29 in 2006 and the peak year was 2007 with 78 ... I only vaguely remember when I was asked if I could help - I think it was 2007 or 8 - 2008 sold 53. 2009 > 33, 2010 > 24 and last year 20.

I stopped the subscriptions by late 2008 ( all kinds of problems but there were only 8 that came to me anyway).

Have tried advertising from time to time but the facts about Adwords, or all of the others ... the click rate for games is huge - but the purchase rate is terrible. With an Adword click for a PC game at 50 c and a rate of less than 1 percent of clicks resulting in a purchase thats an expenditure of $50+ for each $30 game ... you can tell the math is not very favourable ;-)

Niow I don't know how many Shifting Suns themselves sold directly ... but our total over 7 years is only 280 ...

I still get inquiries though and whenever I do advertize I always have Devil Whiskey in there with Demise and the comics and audiobooks.

In March there may be some marketing and I will be providing links to the demo to one significant site.

That is really hard to fathom. I know I bought in early. The demo had major appeal for me. It was the links from other BT sites that let me know that it existed though. Has Jon responded to you, in regards to the code? Thanx for the numbers update. It gives a little perspective.
