Bard's Tale IV is Officially Happening!

Post by dragonbait »

Oh Yeah! It is true. Bard's Tale IV is officially in the works.

See this Twitter post from Brian Fargo
https://twitter.com/BrianFargo/status/5 ... 3121884160

InXile has a Bard's Tale IV section on their forums so what is needed now is for all of us Devil Whiskey fanatics and fans of the gameplay of the old Bard's Tale trilogy to speak up and let their views of how Bard's Tale IV should be so that actual fans of the Bard's Tale Trilogy can have a say in the making of the new Bard's Tale IV. The last thing that we want is to have our [in Golum voice]"PRECIOUS!"[/end Golum voice]distorted and changed in ways that makes the new Bard's Tale game unrecognizable and/or on the same page as that disgustingly horribly fake-ish style Bard's Tale remake that was released in 2004.

Please let this new Bard's Tale not be another mockery. If anyone is still reading these forums, please let your voice be heard...

Here is the link for the new Bard's Tale at InXile.

Let's see how this goes.
Being a non-fan of the original Bard's Tale (I still haven't played them), I enjoyed the 2004 release when I played it on the Xbox. :P

Chatdunda's Reviving Old, Dead Franchises video is relevant.

So, it's really funded.

Using the Unreal engine, if i'm not mistaken. Well... let's expect the worst and hope for the best.

Caution, advertisment incoming: Silversword (sorry, iOS only) is still the nearest approach to Bard's Tale (classic), and if you ask, I will throw some promo codes. The game will celebrate it's 5th birthday soon and I am still developing it further, adding new zones, new skills, new items etc.

Some of you might want to give it a try.
I am looking forward the see the "official" BT4, of course, too.

Best wishes
Mario

I joined the kickstarter for it. They have my money, so let's hope it works out like we all hope. They are also working on a remastered version of the original games which can be played without an emulator, so that will be cool too. Depending on your contribution level, that was one of the offered extras.

You guys seen this from a couple months back?
The Bard's Tale Classic Trilogy Emulated is Now Available!
rewards2015-10-12 16:04:16

Today, we're pleased to announce that The Bard's Tale I-III Classic Trilogy is available to all backers at $20 and above! This emulated version of the original Bard's Tale games is our special gift to you!

The version we've provided is the original DOS versions, emulated using DOSBox, and accessible using a custom launcher we set up to make the process easy. Through the launcher, you can also do things like change graphics filtering to fit your perfect definition of "nostalgia", and transfer characters between the games when you've finished one and want to continue in the next one!

They're also remastering the games, using better Atari ST/Amiga graphics and with an automap. Beta of BT1 remaster is out, I've played around with it a little bit, but not much.

That's cool. I knew they were remastering, but I have not heard any progress. Glad to see a beta is out at least.

It looks really good, especially to me since I am far more familiar at this point with the DOS versions. And the automap should make things much simpler to deal with in this day and age. I'm too old to keep redrawing maps by hand over and over again. Heck, last time I tried a game of BT, I just printed out the maps and put them in my big binder of DOOM.

As far as BT4, they just (in the last week or so, whenever I last bothered to check my email) released a blog thing about the combat system. It's on the BT4 main page at inXile's site.

Well, I'm an Alpha..goes san typing.
But..not for BT :(

Btw, Chaney, I just happened to pop in here--after..many months w/o checking--just hrs after you did!

Must be fate. As in, fait accompli ;)

*Growler knox on walls...hears nobut echoes...*

Btw, am currently working on a small RPG web-based game.. it's a combo of old-school RPG's & text adventure (think Wizardry I meets Zorky).

Got most of the game content done..just gotta learn some PHP to help edit/expand the files my web-designers friend makes.

Hoping beta-testing can begin in a couple months!
