Problems in SUSE 9.3

Post by hunt_mat »

Hi,

I was delighted to find a game very much akin to bards tale which could run natively on Linux. Keep up the good work.

I have however run into the odd problem. About 15 mins into a game it shuts down and I get the following error message

Could not find platform independent libraries <prefix>
Could not find platform dependent libraries <exec_prefix>
Consider setting $PYTHONHOME to <prefix>[:<exec_prefix>]
'import site' failed; use -v for traceback
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "<string>", line 1, in ?
ImportError: No module named random
Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)

What do I do to fix it?

Oh, does Devils Whiskey run on a 64 bit machine? I am in he process of up grading.

Mat, hopefully someone else who knows the Linux ver can offer much better advice, but here's a couple generic considerations:

-does error happen at same spot/event in game?

-can you provide a few more details re: your O.S./hardware config?

-you might try rebooting sys before launching game (tho' Linux is supposed to be much better at reclaiming resources, etc)

-have you tried tweaking any of the game's video/audio/game settings?

-you might try downloading the game again & re-installing.. (you can backup your 'savegame' file, but may want to test with a brand new party first)

Good luck..

Hi,

Thanks for getting back so quickly. In answers to your questions.

-does error happen at same spot/event in game?

Yes, it seems to be. After a certain amount of time the game crashes out and I get the error message that I posted.

-can you provide a few more details re: your O.S./hardware config?

Certainly. OS: SUSE 9.3, graphics card: NVIDIA GeFORCE 6, Processor: AMD Semperon. Is this enough? I am going to be updating to 64bit soon, will that effect anything?

-you might try rebooting sys before launching game (tho' Linux is supposed to be much better at reclaiming resources, etc)

I logged into my system and loaded DW and the same thing happens.

-have you tried tweaking any of the game's video/audio/game settings?

No, any suggestions?

-you might try downloading the game again & re-installing.. (you can backup your 'savegame' file, but may want to test with a brand new party first)

I have found this not to work very well on linux. If it works then it works very well, if not then some tweaking is usally involved.

If you haven't tried already, you may want to email DW tech support directly, especially since you seem to be getting a reproducible error & what appears to be a specific error message..

Meanwhile, I'll try to be--if not helpful, then entertaining at least

-did the error occur the first time you played the game (within ~15 mins)?

-do you have updated drivers for your motherbd & video card especially?

-try tweaking some of the game's video settings 1st...tweak 'em down if they're high (this doesn't seem very relevant to your situation, so may not be worth the effort)

-which game version are you playing? (if it's one of the latest beta-vers, then a beta-bug is likely the issue & will hopefully be resovled soon--esp if you report it)

-pray to Origen, Goddess of the Martyrs--uh, I mean Modders!

Again, emailing tech directly may be your best bet.. (be sure to mention all the details you can)

Hope you get it resolved soon..it's a fun game :P

You need to install Python version 2.2 as newer distros uses 2.4 by default.
